The pangolin is revered in Zimbabwe, the artist's birth country. The totemic nature of the pangolin, here cradled in woven sticks, is enhanced by the use of the clay pots that both alludes to anthills and highlights the significance of pots to humans. As pots are vessels of life to humans, anthills serve the same purpose to animals.
