On long term loan from the artist

Drawing on the artist’s experience as a conscript in the apartheid army, this work reflects on the relationship soldiers were encouraged to have with their weapons. The title refers to the 1930 Soviet machine gun, nicknamed Dushka – which is Russian for “sweetie” – an ironic term of endearment for a weapon of death and destruction.
