| Artist information: | Bulelwa Nokwe was a member of the Bambanani Women’s Group in Cape Town, using Body Mapping to explore her identity and life experiences while living with HIV/AIDS. Her artwork reflects a journey of self-discovery, transforming how she saw herself, from ordinary to something strong and rooted, like a tree. Through her Body Map, she shared personal histories of injury, loss, and motherhood, alongside her emotional response to finally accessing antiretroviral treatment. She expressed deep appreciation for ARVs, challenging misconceptions about adherence by emphasising their vital importance in her life. Her work embodies resilience, healing, and a renewed sense of self-worth. |
