Artist information: | Jan Jordaan was born in Springs, Gauteng, in 1949. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Pretoria in 1973. In 1974, he taught History of Art at Potchefstroom University (now North West University) and served as the director of Art of Humanity in addition to teaching printmaking at Durban Institute of Technology (now Durban University of Technology) in 1975. Jordaan was influential in arranging for exhibitions to take place between Durban and other cities, both locally and internationally. He prepared and printed the Images of Human Rights Portfolio in 1996. He is a painter, sculptor, and graphic artist whose work has been featured in numerous collections, including the Constitutional Court Art Collection. Since 1973, he has participated in group exhibitions held in Durban and various cities.
