Noloyiso Balintulo

Noloyiso Balintulo was a member of the Bambanani Women’s Group in Cape Town, where she used Body Mapping to tell her story of living with HIV/AIDS. Originally from Tsolo, her work reflects a life shaped by loss, early motherhood, and interrupted education, xperiences she saw as common among many South African women. In her Body Map, she visualised illness through powerful imagery, comparing HIV to a storm and depicting her struggles with TB and related symptoms. At the same time, symbols like a cooking pot and fire express her nurturing nature, resilience and desire to care for others. Her artwork conveys both the hardships she endured and the strength and warmth that define her identity.
