Signage: | Black imprisoned women are shown at the Old Johannesburg Fort, today known as Constitution Hill. They are resisting apartheid by continuing with their everyday activities. The red washing line symbolises blood and violence, while the “Blue Dress” echoes Judith Mason’s famous artwork in the CCAC, and the brave resistance it stands for. It is contrasted with prison blankets, representing hardships within the prison walls. By washing, the women have come together in an act of cleansing and collective healing, looking to a better future. |
