Signage: | A nursing mother whitens her shoulders and face and her child’s face with white clay or stone. She wears a medicinal necklace for her child. The woman depicted is wearing one of the most impressive ornaments of the Xhosa – a wide, open-mesh collar in beads of her favourite colours: pink and pale blue with white and black. |
