This work reflects Sousa's distinctive use of colour and form, where bold reds, yellows and greens create a vivid, tactile surface reminiscent of clay and fired ceramics. Two headless female figures emerge and recede within the composition, their bodies partially obscured as they merge with the surrounding ground. This interplay between visibility and concealment emphasises both materiality and abstraction, while echoing Sousa’s broader practice of transforming traditional forms into contemporary visual language. The work highlights his ongoing exploration of the human figure across media, situating painting as a vital part of his contribution to post-independence Mozambican art.
