With Feni's departure from South Africa into voluntary exile, much of his work became more overly political, perhaps as the artist felt a more urgent need to contribute to the South African freedom struggle. According to Feni, he exhibited work for the "achievement of free democratic, non-racial societies throughout Southern Africa".
