Sousa's Rebanho translates to 'herd' in Portuguese. This Linocut print reflects on the state of a time in Mozambique during the civil war(1977-1992) when the country faced an economic crisis and widespread famine. Sousa's print critiques Mozambique's spatial politics demonstrated by the government's decision to nationalize land and large state farms with aims to establish a socialist agricultural strategy that then led to a class divide. The depiction of livestock characterized by simplified and suggestive outlines reverberates Sousa's sentiments in foregrounding the signifier(livestock )of economic stability.
