While the artist was known for his wood carvings, this particular piece is a colour woodcut, a printmaking technique where the image is carved into a block of wood. Sibiya's work frequently drew inspiration from ancient tribal traditions and rites of passage, as seen in this print depicting Zulu figures engaged in a ritual of battle, with the horse caught in between the contestation.
