Thea Soggot is a South African artist whose practice explores themes of identity, materiality and the body. She was born in South Africa, where she continues to live and work. Soggot studied Fine Arts at University of the Witwatersrand, where she developed a multidisciplinary practice that involves sculpture, installation and mixed media.

Earlier in her career, Soggot began producing work that engages with tactile materials and embodied processes, often incorporating organic forms and unconventional media. Her practice reflects on the relationship between the physical and psychological self, drawing attention to vulnerability, transformation and the sensory experience of materials.

Soggot’s work has been exhibited widely in South Africa and internationally and she has participated in numerous group exhibitions that explore contemporary concerns around gender, identity and corporeality. Her installations frequently invite close, intimate engagement that encourages viewers to consider the boundaries between self and environment.

She has completed residencies and participated in collaborative projects that contribute to ongoing dialogues around material practice and contemporary art in South Africa. Her work is included in public and private collections, including the Wits Art Museum and other institutional holdings.
