Bill of Rights
| Series information: | BILL OF RIGHTS (2014) by Dave Southwood is a photographic book that engages South Africa’s Constitution through lived, often uneasy, everyday realities. The work reflects on how constitutional rights are both upheld and tested in contemporary society, translating legal principles into human experience through image and text. Photographs by Dave Southwood (2014) Extending Southwood’s socially engaged documentary practice, the series examines rights through scenes of labour, vulnerability, inequality, and resilience. Rather than illustrating the law directly, it exposes the tensions between constitutional ideals and their uneven realisation in daily life. Read as a visual “interpretation” of the Constitution, Bill of Rights offers a critical reflection on post-apartheid South Africa’s ongoing struggles for dignity, equality, and justice. |
