The top of this work shows the court logo, originally designed by Carolyn Parton, to signal the founding metaphor of the Constitutional Court – “justice under a tree” - in which 11 branches shelter 11 diverse figures. The Y-shape of the tree mimics the South African flag, when shown vertically.

Five of the Court’s 11 judges are shown here with their white ceremonial collars and, above them, a hand holding the Constitution they are tasked with interpreting for the benefit of the country and its citizens. At the bottom, the date of the first democratic elections is recorded, celebrated annually as Freedom Day.
