| Signage: | Produced as part of the Resistance Reconciliation Reconstruction (RRR) portfolio marking ten years of South African democracy, this work reflects on trauma, memory, and processes of healing in the post-apartheid context. It is held in the Constitutional Court Art Collection. The composition is structured around two primary visual anchors against a deep black ground: a large, expressive head in a state of intense emotional distress on the left, and a suspended skull on the right contained within a triangular, hammock-like structure. The contrast between the two elements establishes a tension between suffering and release, with the skull functioning as a memento mori. A central vertical column of handwritten text links these states, moving between fragmented phrases of trauma and truth-seeking, references to familial and social roles, and expressions of resolution such as “Healing the Wounds,” “Truth the liberator,” and “Freedom through Acceptance,” suggesting a trajectory from anguish toward reconciliation. |
