This montage honours the 34 miners who were striking for wage increases and were killed during the Marikana Massacre on 16 August 2012. The lethal use of force against civilians has been compared to apartheid’s 1960 Sharpeville Massacre and the 1976 Soweto Uprising, and led to the Farlam Commission of Inquiry.
