| Signage: | This artwork, created in 2004, created in a post-apartheid South African context, where questions of social integration and collective identity were especially charged. The compressed composition reflects both the energy and friction of people occupying the same social field—connected, yet without clear boundaries.the composition in this artwork is built from repeated human outlines drawn in a single, unbroken line. The figures are stripped of individual identity and rendered almost diagrammatically, reducing the human body to gesture and movement. The title is key to its meaning. “Movement” is expressed through the restless poses and implied motion of the figures, while “Association” refers to their constant visual and spatial entanglement. Together, they suggest that human beings are defined not as isolated subjects but through proximity, interaction and shared space. Overall, the piece visualises society as a continuous system of linked bodies, where individuality dissolves into pattern, movement and relation. |
