The work depicts a township, with houses divided by a road that leads to a mine. The image of the mine plays with the viewer’s eye, it morphs into a windmill, signifying the transition from apartheid to democracy. A coat of arms can be seen centred within the mine, or the windmill. It represents a democratic South Africa, while the construction symbols and infrastructure signify labourers’ role in the struggle against apartheid.
