These are the concluding words of Nelson Mandela's four-hour statement during the Rvonia Treason Trial in 1964, shortly before being sentenced to life imprisonment. S v Makawanyane, one of the first cases heard by the Constitutional Court in 1995, found the death penalty unconstitutional.
