Carpets: Foyer and Court Chamber
| Multi-Part information: | Custom hand-tufted carpets designed for the Court Chamber and public foyer of the Constitutional Court, developed by artist Andrew Verster in collaboration with Blackboard Jungle / Brabetz. The designs are inspired by patterned shadows cast by leaves on the ground at the building site, translating this natural observation into a spatial motif that connects interior architecture with landscape. In the Court Chamber, the palette is restrained, rendered in muted black and white, reinforcing a calm and focused judicial atmosphere. In contrast, the foyer carpets introduce a more expressive chromatic range of rich purples and deep reds, arranged in a rectangular pattern that structures the public waiting area. Together with the seating layout, this configuration forms a reimagined “waiting room” experience—distinct from the often impersonal character of conventional institutional spaces—offering a setting that is both civic and contemplative. |
