| Artist information: | Cecily Sash was a South African artist born around 1924–1925 in Delmas. She studied art in Johannesburg at the Witwatersrand Technical College Art School from 1943 to 1946. She later continued her studies in London at Chelsea Polytechnic and Camberwell School of Art. In 1954, she earned her fine arts degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. After graduating, she taught art at Jeppe Girls’ High School and later at the University of the Witwatersrand until the 1970s. In 1965, she received an Oppenheimer grant to study arts education in Britain and the United States. She moved to Britain in 1974 and lived in the Welsh Marches. Sash was mainly a painter but also created mosaics and tapestries. Her work moved between abstract styles and environmental themes, and she completed several large murals in South Africa.
