Signage: | Following an open national competition, this artwork became the cover of the Images of Human Rights print portfolio, issued by the Artists for Human Rights Trust in 1996. The portfolio consists of 27 prints, each depicting a clause of South Africa’s new Bill of Rights, created by artists representative of the nine new provinces of the country. The images are diverse in their creative approaches, with the artists often drawing on their personal experiences to interpret the individual clauses of the new Bill of Rights. Together they have produced a telling, moving record of the optimism and hope that many South Africans expressed about the new era of fundamental rights in South Africa. |
