The artist has not attempted to represent the diverse, complex aspects of workers’ and employers’ rights literally. Instead, the image offers us a cropped view of a group of people, workers perhaps, but essentially anonymous, indistinct people, like any one of us. Only the elderly man prominently placed in the front is clearly identified as a miner, while suggestions of industrial architecture in the background form a fitting context.
