Carpets: Welsh Library
| Multi-Part information: | The Welsh Library forms part of the Constitutional Court’s interior environment, where shared spaces are shaped through integrated artworks that respond to both architectural function and the broader ethos of the institution. As a space of reading, reflection, and research, the library is articulated through carefully considered design elements that contribute to its atmosphere and identity. As part of the building’s construction, the Architectural Artworks Committee commissioned artists through a site-specific, limited competition to develop artwork-inspired carpets. Designed by Siphiwe Zulu and Storm Janse van Rensburg, the Welsh Library carpet forms part of this broader series, translating the artists’ visual language into a large-scale textile intervention embedded within the space. The carpet was realised through a collaboration with Blackboard Jungle, whose tufters translated the design into a hand-crafted work. Tufters / Blackboard Jungle: Sheridan Arnett, Nirvasha Baulraj, Manfred Brabetz, Michael Brabetz, Stoja Brabetz, Walter Brabetz, Neela Chetty, John Donovan, Charmane Emmanuel, Savy Govender, Shussie Govender, Rachel Horwitz, Joshua Letlaphe, Joe Malesa, Willy Malesa, Joseph Masheve, Sifiso Myeza, Jano Naidoo, Devi Nallan, Kogie Padayachee, Stephen Rantauo, Lee Short, Christine Shunmugam |
