Notes | Spring Is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs explores the intertwined artistic and political histories of Mozambique and South Africa through the life and legacy of Albie Sachs. The exhibition, curated by Zeitz MOCAA Assistant Curator Dr Phokeng Setai, runs from 24 July 2025 to 23 August 2026 on Level 2 Elevator Side of the museum. Albie Sachs, renowned activist, writer, and former Constitutional Court judge (1994–2009), shaped South Africa’s post-apartheid Constitution and remains a powerful voice in justice, memory, and healing. The exhibition reflects on Sachs’ life, the struggles for freedom he embodies, and the cultural and intellectual legacy he helped foster through art, collected, commissioned, curated, or inspired by him. The Constitutional Court Art Collection proudly contributed over 20 key artworks to the exhibition, an honour that reinforces the enduring dialogue between South African art and justice. Together with works from the UWC-Robben Island Mayibuye Archives and Sachs’ personal collection, the exhibition traces revolutionary struggles, explores the role of art in political and social life, and highlights how creativity carried the spirit of freedom before it arrived. Dr Setai notes: “This exhibition shows that art and culture are central to law, justice, and nation-building. Spring Is Rebellious honours those who fought, created, and imagined a just world, reminding us that the struggle and the dreaming continue.” Follow link for more information: https://zeitzmocaa.museum/zeit... |
